LOGic6 is installed on 3 of the computers in the radio room.  DX Atlas is being investigated as an addition to systems with LOGic6.

A install ‘image’ is being built, that will allow a quick restoral, or replication of the configurations on the PCs in the radio room.  This will also allow standardization of the configuration of the PCs.

·        Reimbursement for Heinz’s going away dinner

Leaving a balance of $1641.76

TARC Fest IX – Jim and Biff

TF IX was the best TARC Fest to date

Over 350 people passed through the gate

56 sellers were in attendance

The inside of the fenced area was full by 7:00a and the remaining tailgaters (18) were parked outside the fence

The corporate council cleared ~ $1400 for the event

And finally, the Icom IC-271 all-mode 2m rig was sold during the event.

Including the great turnout of buyers and sellers, ARRL testing was held at 1:00p in the clubhouse, and 5 applicants attended.  There were 2 new licenses earned, and 3 license upgrades completed.

The club held a special raffle towards the end of the event just for new and existing members who renewed their membership at TARCFest IX.  This helped bring the total paid club members to 107.

Digital Committee – Pico and Keating:

Pico and Keating were not in attendance, so Wes, K4NQ provided an update

The Server is running and the workstations are OK.  They functioned fine for the Florida QSO Party.

Logic6 is not installed on all computers yet, but will be soon.

ARES/RACES – Gary:

Gary is currently updating the ARES/RACES roster and verifying the data.  He requests that everyone who is a member please confirm and update their information.

The Mass Casualty Drill was held on 4/20 and operated from several locations, and 26 hams from the area participated. Net control for the event ran from the clubhouse, and all information flowed from the clubhouse by either telephone line, or a private simplex channel to the EOC.

Garry commented about one of the lessons learned from last years Mass Casualty Drill was the lack of VHF antennas (one) and no UHF antennas at the clubhouse, and noted the situation has not changed this year.  He noted the antennas had been acquired, but not installed.

An ARRL EmComm, Level I course will be held at the clubhouse, Saturday, May 10 from 8a to 5p.  He re-emphasized the need for ARRL trained communicators.

On August 16, a Basic and Advanced SkyWarn Spotter course will be held at the clubhouse for those who are not trained, or need a refresher.  Hurricane season starts the first of June, but typically is most active in August and September.

Joe, made glowing comments about the club’s participation in the Mass Casualty Drill from on-the-air observations.

Gary commented on the Hillsborough ARES/RACES/Skywarn, relationship email with the WCF Skywarn Group that was sent last week:

Gary stated that the WCF Skywarn group has not been sanctioned by the local EOC/Skywarn groups and the NWS, and the WCF Skywarn group’s  participation was interfering with local EOC/NWS Skywarn operations.  A decision was made to dissolve the relationship with the WCF Skywarn group.  The WCF Skywarn group was introducing an additional layer of bureaucracy that was not necessary.

Equipment – Jim:

Jim commented that Hank’s job has been extended, and that the tower/concrete work needs to be completed.  If anyone hears or has Hank’s contact information, please have him get in contact with Jim, so the work can be completed.

Jim commented that we will need helpers when Hank can complete the tower work, and that all who can, please come out and help.

Jim noted that the Kenwood TS-870 has been sold, and the ICOM 756 PRO II has been acquired by the club to replace it (we are now basically an ICOM operation).

The B&W BWD-90 folded dipole has arrived.  The exact location of its erection is not finalized, but it is believed to be between the two towers. (twin towers?)

New Business

Sad news, Linda, KB4KYO, SK:

Jim commented that Linda, KB4KYO, passed away from complications associated with surgery to correct a congenital heard defect.  Jim noted that N4RAT had commented the complications were the result of being on a heart/lung machine for an extended period of time.  She had a heart attack as a result of those complications on Saturday, 5/3.

Her funeral is being held in Phoenix, AZ, where her parents live.

Jim recommended we pass a hat, and send a donation in her name according to her parent’s wishes.  The club collected $97.25 at this meeting.

Field Day – Warren, W1GUD:

On May 17, at the clubhouse, will be an equipment checkout party, focusing on building the antennas, and evaluating our other needs.  This includes the available, usable antennas, rotators, feed lines, cables, power, camper availability, connectors, F12s, etc.  He requested that all that could, to please attend.

Warren stated that Jim will handle the sideband station again, Biff will do CW (when not sleeping), Kathy will cook, and Mr. Bunny will watch over everything.

Also, on June 9, will be the RoughRider Cub Scout Day Camp event at Plant Park (next to UT).  The event starts @ 8:00a, and those that can attend, please arrive by 7:30a.  It is a great time, and Jim might even teach CW again!

Announcements:

Program Night:

Ronald Wagner, Commander of the District 3 Medical Team (DMAT) will present on the role DMAT has handling emergency situations.

Ron, KC4HAY described what a DMAT team is, and how they operate in ‘jump teams’ that go on 2 week deployments.  The Government reimburses for the time spent.

DMAT teams are first responders for medical assistance at emergencies, such as hurricanes and tornados.

Examples of their operations include drilling at Iron Man contests, deployment at fireworks displays, etc.  The government typically puts the teams up in hotels.

Persons who participate operate on government frequencies and under government’s group licenses, but generally they prefer communicators to  have General class licenses or above, although the rules they follow are not typically in Part 97.

TARCNet:

The weekly club Net is held on Tuesday nights @ 8:00p, followed by the ARES/RACES/Skywarn net.

Work on the antennas and towers is proceeding.  Hank will come out and site the 2nd tower in the back after he completes his longterm work project at the Crystal River Power station.  We will be reusing the guys of the existing tower where possible.  It is intended to pour the concrete for new tower supports, 2nd tower base, and pad for cooking at one time.  This is anticipated to be completed prior to TarcFest IX.

The top section of the current tower will be changed out to a larger one, and the mast replaced.

Currently, we have only two operational HF antennas, the Windom and the KT34.  The GAP lost its radials to a tree in the last wind storm.

                        Picnic status report – Biff:

Total cost of the joint BARS/TARC picnic was $16.40 per club.  This was the first ever joint event between the two clubs and a good time was had by all.  It was expressed that this should be an annual event, and generally agreed this was a good idea.
